About Clay Friis
The Guy Food Guy
How did I
get to be the Guy Food Guy?
I grew up in
Oakland, Neb. My mother was the best cook and baker in the world. When we went
to potluck dinners, I always paid attention to what she brought, and went for
it right away. Nobody made pies as good; crust as good; meat and potatoes . . .
Swedish Pancakes . . . Sunday chicken . . . she even had a knack for putting
leftovers together into wonderful dishes that were out of this world.
I take
after my father in a lot of ways . . . but when it comes to food, I'm my
mother's boy.
Though I've
had a variety of jobs in my life, from music teacher to owner of a
puzzle-making business, I always seem to come back to cooking and baking. I've
cooked for my wife Carol and kids Nina and Conor for many years. By now, I
figure that I have served meals to close to 23,000 people. There's nothing I
love more.
Over the
years, I've been privileged to cook for a lot of men in all kinds of settings,
including hunting and fishing trips. Their compliments to me, and comments
about their own food choices, alerted me to how intimidated many men are by the
prospect of cooking. I'm also concerned about how poor the nutrition of many
men, especially singles, has become.
Men will:
§
buy a
premade sandwich out of a vending machine at the office and wash it down with a
sugary pop.
§
fill a
grocery cart with junk food and TV dinners, with nary a fruit or vegetable in
sight.
§
run
into a convenience store at meal time, pick up two "energy drinks" and two candy
bars, and that's their meal.
As a
Christian, I'm focused on the "right" things in life. I have a strong desire to
serve others. I love food, can't stand to see people go without meals, and want
people to take advantage of all the delicious, wonderful food available to them
each and every day.
For the
most part, men just don't know how to cook or plan balanced, healthy menus . .
. so I got an idea. With my practical
experience and "regular guy" ways, I could teach them!
So I cooked
up this website. I'm hoping to make money with the ads and some other ideas on
down the road. If it turns out, it could make my dream come true:
I have
always wanted to open a restaurant completely based on leftovers "just like
Mother used to make."
To do it, I
need money. This website's revenues could be the springboard to that dream. If
you would kindly subscribe for a free, weekly recipe, talk us up on Facebook, buy
an ad, and/or spread the word about this free website to everybody you know, you
could help make my dream happen.
So enjoy
this website. Share a recipe or two with me. "Like" our Facebook page. Thanks
for all the support you can give, and remember . . . the Guy Food Guy wants you
to EAT LIKE A MAN!!!
